JCC Vroom or Doom!: Board of Ford Motor Company, 1962

On a peaceful farm in Springwells Township. Michigan, 1863, the man who would eventually come to be the founder of one of the largest American automobile companies was born. HIs parents were modest farmers, but rather than develop a love for the land he lived on, Henry Ford fell in love with all things mechanical. From the moment he witnessed a Nichols and Sheard road engine, he knew he had found his life’s calling. Almost a hundred years later, Henry Ford’s grandson —Henry Ford the Second—took over his beloved company during a tumultuous time. The domestic car market was changing, and Ford’s production vehicles no longer appealed to the younger generation. It was time, Henry Ford II decided, to think big and look far —to the Prancing Horse of Maranello that captured the imagination of children who loved speed and danger. Beginning with the choice of whether to go through with its acquisition of Ferrari, this committee aims to go beyond the commercial interests of Ford and its forays into the racing world. While delegates will be in charge of balancing both the expansion of the company alongside its burgeoning interests in swapping paint with other cars on the track, as members of the Board of Ford, they will also be asked to consider the social, political, and economic impact such a publicly influential committee can have. Ranging from questions about inclusivity in racing and employment, labour rights and the rise or decline of manufacturing and its consequences, and of course, international cooperation of all kinds— at the end of the day, it’s lights out, and away we go!

Christine Jonglertham

chair

Christine (she/her) is a fourth-year from Nebraska (America's cultural epicenter) studying political science and statistics. She has chaired for previous ChoMUN conferences on the Entertainment Software Association, 2011, and Myspace, 2008. She was an assistant chair for the dynamic crisis committee, the Modern Independence of Armenia - Mountainous Republic of Armenia, for ChoMUN and for the Cabinet of Timor-Leste, 2002, for MUNUC 33. Christine continues to be a part of all other aspects of the Model UN experience, serving as the Chief Strategy Officer for UChicago's high school conference and competing with the traveling team on the college circuit. Outside of Model UN, she studies American political violence at the Chicago Project for Security and Threats as a research supervisor. In her free time, she can be found baking with approximate measurements or co-opting her friends' hobbies. Christine is excited for dynamic directives, a friendly frontroom, and to see car go fast. How's my driving?

Julian Tucker

crisis director

Julian is a third-year in the College double-majoring in History and Political Science. As a native of sunny Southern California, Julian is both a lover of cars and a hater of car-centric urban planning. He served as an AC for ChoMUN XXV's JCC Kad Zora Svane: The Kingdom of Serbia, 1918 and as a Crisis Director for ChoMUN XXVI's No Time to Wine: Pinot Noir and the Sour Grapes of Burgundian Succession, 1477. Additionally, Julian is an exec at the University of Chicago's premier high school conference, MUNUC. Outside of MUN, studying, sleeping, and procrastinating, Julian enjoys binging bad TV shows, reading good books, exploring Chicago's food scene, and watching his beloved Baltimore Ravens at the expense of his mental and cardiovascular health. Julian is excited to see what schemes delegates come up with and he hopes to make Henry Ford spin in his grave!

elliot lin

coordinating Crisis director

Elliot is a fourth year studying Economics and Psychology with a minor in English Literature and Creative Writing. They were born in Ottawa, Canada, but grew up in China, and over their last four years in the good ol’ United States, have acquired an increased interest in sports of all forms —beginning with Baseball and now venturing into the wide world of motorsports (Thanks Aadharsh!!). Last year, they were the Crisis Director for “Pitch Please: Major League Baseball, 1994”, which has always been one of their dream committees to run on the circuit, and in past ChoMUNs, they’ve served as a crisis director for “Here Comes the Sun (King): Louis XIV’s Court, 1661”, and as an assistant chair for “I’m Not Into Politics, I’m Into Survival: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governator of California 2003”. In addition, they are one of the co-presidents of Uchicago’s competitive MUN team. Outside of MUN, Elliot’s hobbies include illustration and design, crocheting things they never finish, and playing on the club ice hockey team. In the little spare time they have, you can find them getting up at un-godly hours in the morning to watch Formula 1 (though their favourite drivers have either recently retired, or have been long retired) or MotoGP (because bikes are cooler than cars <3). If you have any questions or concerns about committee, or would like to share a motorsport opinion and/or have a long winded discussion about why Alain Prost is the superior F1 Driver to a certain Brazilian, thank you very much, you can reach out to Elliot at eclin@uchicago.edu.
