Crème de la Prem: English Premier League, 1992-93

Soccer (or football, if you care that much) is an integral part of English identity, with clubs serving as a source of pride for their hometowns. To the victors goes everlasting glory, and to the losers, the threat of relegation. When the top clubs in England split off from the English Football League in 1992 to form the Premier League, they fundamentally reshaped the sport not only in England, but across the world. Massive sums of money flooded into the league and teams were faced with the question of how the spoils from a new multi-million dollar TV rights deal would be distributed and used. Stadiums needed renovation and hooliganism needed curbing. Teams vied for a place in the history books as champions or fought to stay up in the first tier. The fate of the twenty-two clubs in soccer's greatest arena hangs in the balance.

Israel Pierre

Chair

Israel is a rising fourth year at the University of Chicago studying Political Science. He has done ChoMUN for all four years and is also a staffer for Uchicago's highschool conference (MUNUC) and a member of Uchicago's competitive MUN team. In addition to MUN he is also a member of Uchicago's boxing club. Though a relatively new football fan (thanks to BlueLock and the World Cup), Israel find the Premier League to be fascinating, entertaining, and full of passionate clubs, players, and fans. He cannot wait to further immerse himself in the world of football. When he isn't busy with class, debating sports or watching anime, you can contact Israel through email (iopierre@uchicago.edu) and he would be more then happy to answer any questions.

ritwik bose

Crisis Director

Ritwik is a fourth-year undergraduate majoring in Public Policy and Political Science. He's originally from the small town of Ridgefield, Connecticut, which he always prefaces by referencing how it's "really not that far" from New York City (it's an hour and a half by train). In previous years, Ritwik served as the Chief of Staff for ChoMUN XXVI, Crisis Director for Benin, 1986 at ChoMUN XXV, and an assistant chair for the Meiji Restoration at ChoMUN XXIV. Additionally, he's chairing a committee for UChicago's high school conference and regularly competes with the traveling MUN team. When he's not trying to explain to his parents what Model UN is and instead being a productive member of society, Ritwik enjoys trying to not set his kitchen on fire while cooking, listening to music (Denzel Curry and Saba are always on his rotation), testing the limits of procrastination, and dragging his friends around to different art museums and restaurants. As a self-diagnosed soccer addict, Ritwik is incredibly excited to serve as Crisis Director for what can be conservatively described as his dream committee. If you have any questions, concerns, or soccer hot takes (for the record, he's a West Ham fan and has not felt joy this entire season), feel free to email him at ritwikbose@uchicago.edu.

Allen Tousi

CRISIS DIRECTOR

Allen is a second-year double majoring in Economics and Statistics. He was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in the nearby Montgomery County, Maryland. Last year, Allen served as an AC at ChoMUN XXVI for the Ad Hoc Commitee of the Secretary-General as well as an AC for a hybrid committee at UChicago's high school conference, MUNUC. In addition to CD'ing for ChoMUN, he is a member of UChicago's travel team and will EAC for a crisis committee at MUNUC in the upcoming year.

Outside of MUN, you can find Allen wandering the stacks at the Reg, listening to The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer, reading about U.S. politics, or quoting Curb Your Enthusiasm. Reach out to Allen at tousi@uchicago.edu for any questions, concerns, or classic movie recommendations.
