Big Problems, Jurassic Consequences: InGen Board of Directors, 1993

Stepping into the world of Jurassic Park just one week prior to Opening Day, delegates – as the board of directors of InGen, the company that funds and owns Jurassic Park in the original novel and film franchise – will explore the operations, marketing, safety, and industry relating to the successful launch of Jurassic Park, a new theme park the likes of which the world has never seen before. Combining the novelty of a zoo with a theme park, private island vacation, and scientific marvels, the park is surely to be a hit. That said, problems are bound to pop up.

Delegates will decide marketing and public operations/affairs while also considering the future of the project, thinking creatively and meaningfully about the trade-offs of scientific industry research and the future of biotechnology as an industry, practice, and social force. Delegates will address issues relating to park operations, ticket sales, budgetary concerns, marketing, and public safety through cooperation and exploration into the limits and abilities a board of directors has with regard to a normal business model and to something more extreme like in this scenario. Additionally, we are looking for delegates to react quickly and rationally as things may go wrong in maintaining a safe protection of staff, animals, science, and customers throughout the process of the committee. We would like to see what students are capable of with regard to dealing with the social, economic, and public relations crises that will come with any issues regarding the containment and safety of the dinosaurs. In many of the ways InGen failed to secure the island and safety of their patrons in the Jurassic Park movie/book franchise, we are looking for this committee to step up to the plate in containing issues swiftly and effectively and would like to see what you all are capable of.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions at all!

Nevaeh scott

Chair

Nevaeh is a fourth-year Global Studies and Business Economics major from Pomona, Kansas, or practically the middle of nowhere.

She has been active in ChoMUN during her entire college career and was a Crisis Director for This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things: Ticketmaster, 2024 in ChoMUN XXVII, Executive Assistant Chair for The Cold War Takes Off: Rebuilding West Germany, 1948 in ChoMUN XXVI, Assistant Chair for C'Mon Mayotte, Why Not?: Independence of Comoros, 1974 in ChoMUN XXV, and competed in Model UN during high school.

In her free time, you can find her exploring the various neighborhoods of Chicago, trying new restaurants, especially Italian, watching baseball, and finding the latest rom-com on Netflix.

If you have questions about the committee or want to give any movie or series suggestions, you can contact her at Nevaehs@uchicago.edu.

Virginia Wright

Crisis Director

Virginia is a Fourth-Year completing a BA/MA in Political Science and the Committee on International Relations through UChicago’s Division of the Social Sciences. She is from Pomona, Kansas.

Her previous ChoMUN experiences include serving as an Assistant Chair for Ben and Jerry's 2000: To Melt or Merge, an Executive Assistant Chair for JCC: Wasted in the Windy City, and she served as ChoMUN XXVII’s Chief Design Officer. In MUNUC (our high school Model UN Conference), she has chaired the ECOFIN, Crisis Directed for Life Finds a Way: The California Department of Fish and Wildlife 2024, and is currently serving as a Moderator on the SOCHUM.

Outside of MUN, Virginia plays the Flute with the UChicago University Wind Ensemble, is a Pritzker Fellows Ambassador at the Institute of Politics, and is the Treasurer of the UChicago Political Union. Usually bouncing between taking too many classes and having too many internships, Virginia often pretends to get enough sleep but still loves reading, writing, and binging Grey's Anatomy when she's bored.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or TV show recs at wrightv@uchicago.edu!

Makiyah Murray

Crisis DIrector

Makiyah is a fourth year in the college majoring in Public Policy and Psychology. Though she was raised in Virginia, she doesn’t claim the state like that so her introductions typically sound like, “ I was born in Georgia, raised in Virginia.” This is also usually to avoid explaining where either of the cities relevant to her are, Kingsland and Newport News respectively. As for her time in Model UN, she has previously served as an assistant chair during last year’s ChoMUN for “This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things: Ticketmaster, 2024” while also being an active member of UChicago’s MUN team.

Other activities and hobbies she enjoys include being an assistant Girl Scout troop leader, practicing her Spanish, and reading whenever she can (she really enjoys the Children of Blood and Bone series). She would also like to let it be known that she is excited to add to her ChoMUN experiences by coming up with fun and daring breaks for her delegates.

For any questions or if you would like to know more about her, please feel free to reach out to her email at makiyahm@uchicago.edu.
