White Picket Fence: Kansas City Homeowners association, 2016

In 2016, it was uncovered that Kansas City HOAs were not using the dues paid by homeowners properly, pocketing the money or misusing it for unsafe systems. All of this culminated in outrage when it was discovered that the HOA maintenance was literally stucco-ing over the cracks of a deeply flawed foundation. Shocked homeowners took to the press to express their concerns about the HOA’s structure, history, and incompetence. Now, amidst a large movement to reform HOAs across the nation, one HOA from Kansas City must come together to either fight back against the rising tensions or determine for themselves that change is necessary — as long as everyone’s grass is no more than 3 inches high. Delegates will face creative challenges throughout the weekend in this committee, all with the help of some friendly neighbors!

This is an advanced committee. We highly recommend that delegates have experience competing on crisis-style committees on the collegiate circuit before joining this committee.

This will be a double-delegation committee.

Margaux marinelli

Chair

Margaux is a fourth-year at UChicago double majoring in Chemistry and Biochemistry, a very proud Texan and a slightly less proud premed.

In her free time, she tries to get as far away from the chemistry lab as possible and can often be found reading a fantasy novel or trying to improve her cooking skills (they need desperate help). Previously she has been an AC for MUNUC for Biltmore and an AC at ChoMUN for the UNSC.

Margaux believes this committee will be special, tackling the important issues Model UN rarely focuses on, such as “those pesky teenagers throwing a rager”.

If you have any questions about the committee or how to leave a chem lab, please feel free to email Margaux at mmarinelli@uchicago.edu.

Harper Schwab

Crisis Director

Harper is a fourth-year in The College majoring in Data Science and Human Rights. Born in California and raised in North Carolina since the sixth grade, his love for kale has since been confused with an equal passion for NC barbeque. Last year, Harper was a crisis director for the UNSC, and the year before that Run it Back Turbo: The Creation of NASCAR 1947, and the year before, he was an Assistant Chair on the Third Punic War Carthage committee.

Harper is one of the Presidents of the University's travel MUN team and is chairing a Transit committee this year at MUNUC, our high school conference.

Beyond MUN, he is lightly involved in looking for a new music-based club to dedicate himself to. In his free time, Harper can be found at a few coffee shops around campus but namely Harper Cafe, partially because of the name but also due to the allure of talking with his friends who work behind the cafe bar, like Victor!

If you have any questions about the committee or want to talk about a random song of choice, please feel free to email Harper at hwschwab@uchicago.edu.

Victor Brown

CRISIS DIRECTOR

Victor is a fourth-year in The College majoring in Computer Science and Data Science. Born in the Big Apple (where he’ll be interning this summer) and raised in Austin, Texas, he knows how to keep it weird.

Last year, Victor was an Under Secretary General for ChoMUN XXVII, the year before that a crisis director on Run it Back Turbo: The Creation of NASCAR 1947, and the year before, he was an Assistant Chair on the Third Punic War Carthage committee.

Victor is the financial manager at UChicago’s hottest student cafe: Harper Café (coincidentally bearing the same name as his co-CD and roommate, Harper Schwab). A self-proclaimed storyteller, you can always count on him to retell one of his many adventures to anyone who wants to listen.

If you have any questions about the committee or want to talk about anything at all, please feel free to email Victor at victorfbrown@uchicago.edu.
