Millenium Boogie: Early Internet, 2000

Before the internet as we know it today came into being, it wasn't a sure thing. Several pivotal events seemed to doom the project of the world-wide web before it even started. The downfall of file-sharing services such as Limewire and Metallica — alongside the plethora of ill-fated platforms launched during the dot-com bubble — represent the growing pains of the early internet, influencing its trajectory and the online services that would come to dominate the modern world.

In this committee, delegates will represent various key players and stakeholders in the internet’s nascent years, ranging from services like AOL, persistant industry landmarks like Columbia Records, and juggernauts of the time like Yahoo!. The Early Internet Task Force will task delegates with navigating a post-Y2K internet and handling the legal, cultural, and political events following it, allowing for history to be rewritten and doomed companies to correct their fatal blunders. By the end of committee, this alternative Internet will play a role in the outcome of the 2008 election, one of the first presidential elections to leverage the internet to its fullest potential.
