Ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General

ChoMUN XXVIII’s Ad Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General has been specially designed to give experienced crisis delegates a unique and exciting experience. The committee topic will remain a secret until shortly before the conference, at which point the background guide will be released and delegates will have the opportunity to engage in committee-specific preparation. Due to the nature of the committee, delegates will be forced to think on their feet, and their crisis skills will be constantly tested. As the flagship committee of ChoMUN XXVIII, the Secretary-General’s Ad Hoc promises the most innovative crisis experience on the collegiate competitive circuit and one that will challenge your preconceptions of traditional crisis Model UN.

When preparing for this committee, the executives encourage delegates to focus on tangible skills, including but not limited to: note and directive writing, speeches, directive mergers, and on-your-feet thinking. While several hints for this committee will be released over the months leading to the start of ChoMUN XXVIII, the executives would caution against relying too heavily upon them; they are not meant to be easily interpreted, as that would ruin the secret!

This is an advanced committee. We highly recommend that delegates have experience competing on crisis-style committees on the collegiate circuit before joining this committee.

anna falcone

Executive

Anna is a fourth-year majoring in Law, Letters, and Society and Religious Studies. A proud New Yorker, she originally hails from the distant lands of New York City (and is judgemental over the boundaries of New York City). Previously for ChoMUN, she served as an AC for JCC Kad Zora Svane: The State of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, 1918 at ChoMUN XXV, a Chair for Rewriting the Unwritten at ChoMUN XXVI, and as a Chair for the UNSC, Eritrea 1970s at ChoMUN XXVII.

Outside of ChoMUN, Anna is a Chair for MUNUC, UChicago’s high school conference, and is the President of UChicago’s MUN team.  On the rare occasion where she manages to escape the clutches of MUN, she sometimes works with UChicago’s IOP and is writing a thesis on law and religion.  With her rapidly dwindling free time, Anna can be found at coffee shops drinking Red Bull, walking around Hyde Park, or hanging out with friends.

If you have any questions about committee or want to chat about religion and law, please reach out at afalcone@uchicago.edu.

Lucas Freitag

Executive

Lucas is a fourth-year studying Public Policy and Economics. A proud Illinoisan, he originally hails from the distant lands of Chicago’s western suburbs (and has learned better than to call himself a “Chicagoan”). Previously for ChoMUN, he served as an AC for Until Death Do Us Part: FRCA, 1823 at ChoMUN XXV, a Chair for The Fall of the Cholas: Rajaraja Chola III’s Advisors, 1216 at ChoMUN XXVI, and as a Crisis Director for How the Sausage Gets Made: Armour & Co., 1906 at ChoMUN XXVII.

Outside of ChoMUN, Lucas serves as the Chief Operating Officer for MUNUC, UChicago’s high school conference, and is (allegedly) involved with UChicago’s MUN team. On the rare occasion where he manages to escape the clutches of MUN, he writes for the UChicago undergraduate law magazine and is currently completing a thesis on public pension reform (which he swears is way more interesting than it sounds!) With his rapidly dwindling free time, Lucas can most likely be found at the gym, collecting fountain pens, or “studying” in a Hyde Park coffee shop.

If you have any questions about committee or want to chat about pensions, please reach out at lfreitag@uchicago.edu.

Harikesan Balachandran

Executive

Hari is a fourth-year majoring in Mathematics and Economics.  A proud Californian, he originally hails from the distant lands of San Jose City (and has neutral opinions about the rest of California). Previously for ChoMUN, he served as an AC for Until Death Do Us Part: FRCA, 1823 at ChoMUN XXV, a CD for The Fall of the Cholas: Rajaraja Chola III’s Advisors, 1216 at ChoMUN XXVI, CD and Chair for the UNSC, Eritrea 1970s at ChoMUN XXVII.

Outside of ChoMUN, Hari is a Chair for MUNUC, UChicago’s high school conference, and is involved with UChicago’s MUN team.  On the rare occasion when he manages to escape the clutches of MUN, he is writing his thesis and is working in a research lab (applied micro–amirite?).  With his rapidly dwindling free time, Hari can be found ordering an absurdly priced $4 horchata, rock climbing, or pretending to work on his problem sets in a Hyde Park coffee shop

If you have any questions about committee or want to chat about climbing, please reach out at harikesanb@uchicago.edu.
